About the lecture series

The series of lectures will provide participants with basic orientation in the strategies of the State of Israel vis-a-vis its support of innovation and start-ups. They will get both theoretical as well as practical perspectives from leading Israeli scholars and entrepreneurs.

The lecture series is organized by Department of International Relations and European Studies, Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University. The series will consist of twelve 90 minute lectures and discussion sessions and one workshop. Majority of lectures will take place within three weeks.

About Prof. Maital

Prof. Shlomo Maital

Prof. Shlomo Maital is the Academic Director of TIM-Technion Institute of Management, Israel's leading executive leadership development institute and a pioneer in action-learning methods.

He was summer Visiting Professor for 20 years in MIT Sloan School of Management's Management of Technology M.Sc. program. He is the author co-author or editor of 8 books, including Innovation Management (Sage, 2007);  Executive Economics (The Free Press), translated into seven languages, and Managing New Product Development & Innovation.

He is co-editor of a new journal, International Journal of Technology &Innovation Management Education. He was co-founder of SABE-Societyfor Advancement of Behavioral Economics.

He has published over 80 scholarly articles in refereed journals. He has written guest editorials for Barron's, and writes regular columns for The Marker (Haaretz business daily) and Jerusalem Report (fortnightly).  He served as Director of the National & Economic Planning Authority, Economics Ministry, Government of Israel. He has taught managers from 200 Israeli companies.

Dr. Dana Vashdi

Dr. Dana Vashdi

Dana R. Vashdi is head of the division of Public Administration and Policy in The University of Haifa, Israel. Dana earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from the Technion - the Israel Institute of Technology and did her post doc at the Cornell ILR School.

Dana’s research focuses on teamwork and team innovation as well as employee well-being, organizational climate and healthcare policy. Her expertise include enhancing learning in different types of teams - helping teams learn how to better learn and how to be innovative. She has published in numerous academic journals. She teaches executives, undergraduates, master's students, and Ph.D. students.

She has worked with teams in many organizational settings in order to help them improve their effectiveness such as air-force teams, hospital teams and high-tech teams.

Dr. Eitan Adres

Dr. Eitan Adres

Dr. Eitan Adres served as a pilot in the Israeli Air Force and for many years served as chief executive officer of leading steel companies with intensive international business activities.

At present he is involved in High-Tech start-ups and in promoting entrepreneurship of small and medium businesses. All these along with extensive civil society leadership related mainly to education and social mobility.

His research focuses on globalization consequences for citizen/state relationships at the Division of Public Administration and Policy, School of Political Sciences, University of Haifa, and as a fellow Senior Researcher at the Samuel Neaman Institute for National Policy Research in the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Dr. He lectures on globalization, business management and negotiation.

He has published in Armed Forces & Society and Public Administration Review (PAR) and participates in policymaking proposals for economic development in northern Israel and conscription models.

Ran Arad

Ran Arad

Ran Arad is a Director at ISERD, the Israel-Europe R&D Directorate, at the Israeli Innovation Authority. Ran manages several Israeli-European R&D cooperation programs including the H2020 SME Instrument, Eurostars, EEN, and various bilateral programs.

Ran is a veteran of the Israeli high-tech industry, and has worked as a Computer Engineer in the Israeli Defense Forces, a Principal at Carmel Venture Capital, and a Branch Manager at Silicon Valley Bank.

Ran Holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Computer Engineering from the Technion, Israeli Institute of Technology, and an MBA from INSEAD.

Eitan Kyiet

Mr. Kyiet has 15 years’ experience holding a senior operations and business planning position in Biosense Webster (a Johnson & Johnson company), several business development and strategic alliance positions with Lumenis and also an M&A and high-tech partner in a major Tel Aviv law firm and an in-house counsel to a publicly-traded company in Israel and on NASDAQ.

He holds an LL.B. in law and an MBA, both from Haifa university.

Prof. Sheizaf Rafaeli

About Prof. Rafaeli

Prof. Sheizaf Rafaeli

Professor Sheizaf Rafaeli (B.A., Haifa University, M.A. OhioState University, M.A., Ph.D., Stanford University) is Founding Director of the the Center for Internet Research (InfoSoc, the Center for the Study of the Information Society) (1998 -present), and former Head of the Graduate School ofManagement (2005-2011), University of Haifa Israel.

He leads the "Serious Games for Executives" project, and serves as Director in a series of public interest organizations and as a member of several Editorial Boards. He is co-PI and member ofthe Academic Management of the ICORE LINKS Center of Excellence for research on Learning in the Age of Information.

Previously, he served as head of the Information Systems area atthe GSB in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, since 1986.

His interests are in computers as media. He has published on this topic in many top peer-reviewed journals, as well as in various media. Prof. Rafaeli has served in visiting research and teaching positions at Ohio State University, Michigan State University, IBM, StanfordUniversity, Technion, Israeli College of Management, and the University of Michigan.

Eran Wagner

Eran Wagner

Eran Wagner joined Gemini in 2011 as General Partner. His areas of investment focus include enterprise software, telecommunications and security; he also shows keen interest in the juncture of sensor networks, robotics and real-world applications. He sits on the boards of Gemini portfolio companies Cloudshare, ConteXtream, Moovit, WalkMe, ToTango and WatchDox.

Prior to Gemini, Eran served as the President of North American Operations at cVidya Networks where he built the company's business throughout the continent. Before joining cVidya, Eran was Vice President, Portfolio Strategy and Planning at Amdocs, which he joined after a company he co-founded, XACCT Technologies Inc., was acquired by Amdocs in 2004. He also previously co-founded the Xpert Group in 1993, a system integration project for corporate and service providers' networking and Internet/intranet environments, and subsequently sold it to One in Israel in 2005.

Eran holds a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Tel Aviv University and is a serial inventor with multiple granted patents. He is a co-founder of both the IEFF (Israeli Entrepreneurs and Founders Forum) in the Silicon Valley and the Israel Conference (www.theisraelconference.org) in Los Angeles and is an active fellow of the Aspen Institute.

Peter Kolesár

Peter Kolesár

Peter Kolesár has assumed the position of CEO of Neulogy on May 9, 2016. Previously, he has worked for the company as Chief Strategy Officer.

Over the last four years, Peter Kolesár served as the Trade and Innovation Counselor at Slovak embassies in Washington, D.C. and Tel Aviv. Prior to this, he had worked as a Senior Consultant at Candole Partners, a CEE public policy and regulatory consulting firm. 

Peter holds a Master degree in international relations from the Central European University in Budapest and Masaryk University in Brno. He was a scholar at Bard College, New York.
